The Upbringing

Here's a little story that must be told...
Ever since I was a youngin' I've thought
out of the box
Always busy planning my future
Not the kinda kid who was lost kicking
rocks.
When I was just 5 years old, my parents
got divorced.
Not very common back in the day
A quick adjustment to swallow, I was
forced.
As the years went by,
I became stronger and more aware.
This is real life
Whether its right or unfair.
Like most people in the world
I've faced my share of big changes and
obstacles,
Sometimes the best way to handle them
is just to relax like a kid and eat orange
cream popsicles.
Living with mom here,
living with dad there,
It's like 2 different worlds
So many differences that caused me to
stop and stare.
Coming from a mixed background of
blonde hair and blue eyes
Along with curly hair and sweet potato
pies,
This white dominated community was in
for a surprise.
Through all the hardships and changes,
All I ever wanted was the truth with no
lies.
Now I look back at all the many sighs and
cries
Some things I can't remember for what
reason or why.
But after it all I've opened my eyes to
realize my past is what has molded me,
the hundreds of tears and smiles,
something I could never regret or despise
because the love and support that got
me through never dies.

The Good,The Bad, & The Racist

Common says a white man's yes
is a black maybe.
Sad to say
it hasn't changed much since before I was
just a little baby.
The good are the good,
the bad are the bad,
but the racist are the ignorant and just
plain mad.
So narrow minded
ha how pathetic and sad!
They are those who look at different skin
colors on different people as being just
an unnecessary fad,
like Michael Jackson's style in the music
video Bad.
But I am please to say this is one fad
that will never fade, not now or ever in
other words never!
Everyone is different.
Be proud of the person you are born into
being.
Stay true to self, be who you are
And don't let anyones comments or
actions leave you with a scar.
You determines you...not the color of
your skin.
Black,white,brown, or pale
You are who you choose to be...a blessing
or a sin.
Don't judge a book by its cover
or a person by their skin color.
Take the time to get to know who they
truly are before you speak...give it a month
or even just a week...then watch and learn what you
will discover.

I am half white and half black and couldn't be more proud of the person I am. It saddens me to know there are still racists in the world who truly believe the things they do, but in the same sense they motivate me to work even harder and complete the goals I have set out for myself so in the end I can come back and say "I told you not to doubt me!"
