Promise

A promise is a pact.
You say the words,
you give them meaning,
it's like signing a NBA contract.
It's not just a deal.
Nothing like "I pinky swear",
This shit is for real.
A promise is a guarantee.
One that you will stick to and live through.
Something so essential to your mind's memory
Should stick to your soul like glue.
Exchanged words from you to me.
Oh so powerful,
carrying loads of emotion.
These sacred words are the main
character or better yet the star role.
Sadly not all promises are kept.
Can leave you feeling distraught
or thinking what could've been like dot dot dot.
Too many people seem to be the same.
Say one thing and do another.
Who truly is to blame?
Keep to your word.
Be the difference amongst us all.
Don't be fake like a Barbie doll
because a kept promise can pick someone up when they fall.

Free Stylin'

There you go,
tryin to criss cross things up like Lebron
on Kobe
Get your priorities straight
and quit spinning things up like Mr.Maguire
comma Tobey.
Keep this mess up and you'll have me
saying "I don't know you, and you don't
know me."
Everything you say to me these days is
just baloney
Got the mind frame of a kid
What happened?
Here take a sec to think about it and enjoy your cheese with Macaroni.

The Upbringing

Here's a little story that must be told...
Ever since I was a youngin' I've thought
out of the box
Always busy planning my future
Not the kinda kid who was lost kicking
rocks.
When I was just 5 years old, my parents
got divorced.
Not very common back in the day
A quick adjustment to swallow, I was
forced.
As the years went by,
I became stronger and more aware.
This is real life
Whether its right or unfair.
Like most people in the world
I've faced my share of big changes and
obstacles,
Sometimes the best way to handle them
is just to relax like a kid and eat orange
cream popsicles.
Living with mom here,
living with dad there,
It's like 2 different worlds
So many differences that caused me to
stop and stare.
Coming from a mixed background of
blonde hair and blue eyes
Along with curly hair and sweet potato
pies,
This white dominated community was in
for a surprise.
Through all the hardships and changes,
All I ever wanted was the truth with no
lies.
Now I look back at all the many sighs and
cries
Some things I can't remember for what
reason or why.
But after it all I've opened my eyes to
realize my past is what has molded me,
the hundreds of tears and smiles,
something I could never regret or despise
because the love and support that got
me through never dies.

The Good,The Bad, & The Racist

Common says a white man's yes
is a black maybe.
Sad to say
it hasn't changed much since before I was
just a little baby.
The good are the good,
the bad are the bad,
but the racist are the ignorant and just
plain mad.
So narrow minded
ha how pathetic and sad!
They are those who look at different skin
colors on different people as being just
an unnecessary fad,
like Michael Jackson's style in the music
video Bad.
But I am please to say this is one fad
that will never fade, not now or ever in
other words never!
Everyone is different.
Be proud of the person you are born into
being.
Stay true to self, be who you are
And don't let anyones comments or
actions leave you with a scar.
You determines you...not the color of
your skin.
Black,white,brown, or pale
You are who you choose to be...a blessing
or a sin.
Don't judge a book by its cover
or a person by their skin color.
Take the time to get to know who they
truly are before you speak...give it a month
or even just a week...then watch and learn what you
will discover.

I am half white and half black and couldn't be more proud of the person I am. It saddens me to know there are still racists in the world who truly believe the things they do, but in the same sense they motivate me to work even harder and complete the goals I have set out for myself so in the end I can come back and say "I told you not to doubt me!"

Focused

Its now fall of '09.
Finally the start of senior year.
I cant believe its already here
But I'm ready & going in with no fear.
I have my goals, dreams, and aspirations
To become the next great writer is my
goal career.
I know what I want & I know what I need.
Nothing is going to stop me,
Not negative words or people.
I'm on my way to changing the
world...catch me if you can, but I'm
already in the lead.
I'm confident not cocky.
If my vibe is misunderstood, then take a
second and re-read.
This is my time to shine.
Focused is what I am.
This isn't the end of the game...in my mind
its only half time.
The road to success is all but a walk in
the park.
Although, the constant ups and downs
are what it take to make your historic
mark.
My family and friends are my back bone
of support.
I'm ready to complete my journey.
In other words, its the second half of the
game and the time to take the court and
defeat all competition of all
shapes,sizes, and sorts!

Trust

Trust.
Trust is a must in the life we live.
Be careful who you trust.
In a friendship or acquaintance
Whether in love or in lust.
Nothing is for sure.
There is no guarantee.
Actions speak louder than words
Reassurance is the key.
Something worked for
Not openly given
The great success of these steps
Will keep you determined and driven.

Fear

Scared.
Trembling.
Shaking.
The words that define the sacred word
of fear.
Everyone has one.
Spiders, heights, change.
Some have a ton.
Fear is that of a state of mind.
You are the creator, but you have the
power to also be the destroyer.
This state of mind can be defeated...so
long as it is left behind.
A fear must be met face to face.
Show your strength.
Defend your character.
Prove you are a strong individual who is
not and never will be a disgrace to our
prideful human race.
